It has only been a week since the release of Nintendo’s Wii U and already there is going to be yet another Wii console set for release. According to web sources, Nintendo is planning to release a new Wii dubbed “Wii Mini” during the holiday season for $99… and in Canada only.
If you thought that was funny, then you’ll definitely get a kick out of the actual hardware description. The Wii Mini, as cute as it sounds and looks, apparently does not add as much as it removes…
According to reports, the Wii Mini abandons the original’s slanted, awkwardly geometric rectangular shaped frame in favour of a more proportionally square-shaped design with black and red colour styling. And though the Mini is far smaller than the original, to accommodate for its minimalistic change, the Mini also ditches the option for Internet connectivity so don’t expect to find any Ethernet ports or Wireless Receivers in this machine…. And don’t expect any Mario Kart Wii multiplayer matches either (naturally). Also, you can leave your nostalgic cravings at the door, because GameCube backward compatibility is officially out the window.
I have always been a die-hard Nintendo fan, but this bites the bullet. Having comprehensively tested out the Wii U in our Alghanim testing labs (our office) and loving it… I wouldn’t look twice into investing any time or money in the Wii Mini. But then again for $99, would probably make for a great carry along console for Diwaneyas and travels.
