Me, again! Same series, different product. After taking a look at Samsung’s new ATIV Smart PC and Smart PC Pro in a previous article, let’s jump over to the new ATIV S smartphone. Samsung is planning to strike the Windows Phone market with its new ATIV S smartphone by providing a similar experience to its best-selling Galaxy series. “Like what?”, you ask. Well, you get a 4.8″ version of the Galaxy S3′s Super AMOLED screen, the 1GB of RAM of the Galaxy S2, a 1.5GHz dual core processor similar to the first Galaxy Note, an 8 Megapixel Rear camera and 1.9 Megapixel front camera. Adding Windows Phone 8 to the mix, it seems that Samsung has come up with a Galax-enstein (I tried to come up with another word, but failed epically) on steroids.
Some of you may argue, “Why are we still talking about Dual Core Processors and 1GB of RAM? This is 2011 technology!” and I agree with you on that note. But what if Windows Phone 8 is coded so well, that it needs half of the power an Android OS needs to performs similar/better tasks? I’m not going into benchmarks or come up with numbers that don’t yet exist; I’ll leave this part to you. Explore whether Samsung is just cheaping out on components because of the low market share of Windows Phone 8, or whether Windows Phone 8 is really that efficient (Remember that Games still need a lot of power). Let me know what you find in the comment section below.
Back to the ATIV S. Along with all the hardware mentioned above, the phone boasts Samsung’s NFC, Bluetooth 3.0, Dual-Band N Wi-Fi, HSPA+ 42MB and all the GPS/Gyroscope gizmos. The ATIV S does sound like a good contender to Nokia’s Lumia 920 and may as well be on par with it. I guess we just have to wait for the ATIV S to launch in the region to see how well it does versus the Nokia Lumia 920; I mean, the main differences are that Nokia has Gorilla glass (Good) and a unibody design (Not so good), right? Or is this a much deeper issue than just looks? What do you guys think? Click here to see Samsung’s ATIV S page for more information.
No information on release dates for Kuwait as of yet. Keep an eye on the blog and xcite.com!
