I think we can all agree that the iPod is one of the greatest inventions out there to enter the music industry. I honestly can’t imagine how I survived all these years without an iPod, it truly is an investment. With over 3000 songs in a tiny little gadget to take everywhere, I call that genius! Along with the iPod came a number of accessories or devices to make the experience even better. Must have iPod Accessories

iPod

No matter where you go these days you’ll always find people with their headphones glued to their heads and eyes stuck to their iPod’s. I know that were all obsessed with our iPod’s and can’t leave the house or drive anywhere without plugging it in the car, even if it was a five-minute drive. Though there are a lot of MP3 players out there and it feels like every week there’s something new surprising us on the market, but I am personally loyal to my Apple iPod Nano 4G. When it comes to accessorizing an iPod, the options are endless whether it’s the perfect headphones or a cover. There’s something for everyone, if you like weird or practical accessories it’s all out there, you just need to go on the hunt and look for those hidden gems to complete your music experience.

iPod cases: If you’re a heavy iPod user and sometimes you don’t tend to be so delicate with using it, then wrapping your iPod with a case is necessary. The selection of iPod cases are endless and countless, you have your serious and somewhat boring looking cases that just offer protection and you have the weirdest cases you’ll ever see. Get creative and don’t be afraid to mix it up a little!

iPod accessories for exercising: Don’t go on those boring long walks and tiring jogs without your music anymore. Just attach your iPod to an Armband or attach your iPod Nano 6G to a wrist band, they’re flexible, stylish and can be very handy when you’re working out.

iPod accessories for your car: Most of us spend half the day in the car and having your iPod with you at all times is probably the only thing that makes traffic less painful. That’s why you need to keep you iPod charged and ready, having the right iPod charger for your car is essential!

Skullcandy

Feb 28

Does every revolution really need a soundtrack? I think so!

images

It was little known to me that there was a brand called Skullcandy. Although, after trying out my friend’s Skullcandy earphones, I was enthralled. I honestly thought the Apple’s headphones I got when I bought my iPhone were that great.  Ergnomically designed and offering crystal clear music, Skullcandy headphones do have the deepest bass; however, I don’t want to stress much on bass because I feel it drowns out the vocals and affects the clarity of the artists voice.

Skullcandy

Skullcandy has always received mixed reviews for their design and performance in general.

I believe Skullcandy is that special! Just like the Beats, Skullcandy has also featured artists like Snopp Dogg and Jay Z to endorse their products and deliver amazing sound to your ears.

As non-technical as this might sound, the thing that did grab my attention the most was the design. I felt that Skullcandy represents the cool side of today’s generation with its fusion of colours and vinyls printed across the ear cups. It’s like each Skullcandy headphone has a different design to match your personality. Unlike any regular plain or coloured headphones, Skullcandy’s design has stylish graphics, making you look cool and classy at the same time.

These headphones surely characterize uniqueness, comfortability and affordability.

From Hesh to Lowrider, Lurker Toxic Flyer, Uprock, and more, these headphones offer the perfect wind and noise canceling technology. And yes, they are extremely light in weight!

4 ways to improve your music experience

The best companion for those long early drives to work or those tedious moments where we had to wait for an appointment, is definitely music! Honestly, I can’t live without my iPod and if I had to go one day without blasting my iPod dock, am pretty sure I wont be able to function for the rest of the day. With time I started learning certain ways to make my music experience even better and to make my songs sound richer. So here are a couple of tips on how to make those music sessions perfect.

Tip #1:

Clear out your music library, try to refresh your music library every now and then by adding new music or removing those songs that we always tend to skip when they’re on, I think we all have one or two of those on our iPod’s. Also don’t be afraid to mix it up a little by adding some songs from live shows, sometimes they have a different feel to them, an authentic touch.

Tip #2:

Make tons of playlists.  Playlists to me at first really felt unnecessary and a waste of time, but when you’re on the road or you’re in a certain mood for certain songs, we all agree that its tough to keep going back and forth through your iPod looking for that one song that’s stuck in your mind. So make playlists, make as much as you can!

Tip#3:

Be adventurous and go on a music hunt! Dig deep for those undervalued musicians, I personally think the best tool to use is YouTube. Besides being always available for me on my Phone, I always find the best music and underrated songs by searching a song I already like and going through the suggestion box next to the video. It’s always guaranteed to find hidden gems on YouTube.

Tip #4:

And finally, I recommend you to upgrade your old headphones to new and improved ones. If you’re always on the go your headphones are your savior so choosing the right pair is crucial. I know it can be confusing since there’s way too many brands and types to choose from so if you’re puzzled and need guidance, you can refer to our article on how to pick the most suitable headphones to match your music. So get started on the organizing and musical discovery today!

SoundCloud: Bringing the music together

soundcloud expand
Feb 03
soundcloud

The music industry can be a grueling, tough place for many artists, for it cannot be entered with ease due to the many complications surrounding it. But ever since 2008, all people aspiring to be within this closed knitted group have been handed a fighting chance through a platform called SoundCloud. For those of you that have not heard of SoundCloud, it is a social network for musicians in other words it’s the “Flicker” of music.

When Alex Ljung, the co-creator of SoundCloud decided to launch this project from Berlin, Germany his main objective was to give struggling artists a chance and built it upon the concepts of cooperation, inspiration and social sharing rather than being considered more of a commercially oriented name. This network built its strong following of 180 million through taking up the concept of “interaction” to a whole new level, where ordinary people can have their say on what they think music is and ought to be with their musical idols and famous people related to this particular industry. This does not only allow collaborative efforts to evolve and take place but also gives everybody an equal chance of being noticed.

SoundCloud started of strictly as a website but recently it has been turned into an App since people nowadays rely on their mobile phones more. It can be downloaded on your iPhone, iPad or any other smart phone or tablet. Moreover, you can easily record any piece of music on your phone and directly upload it onto the network, or you can simply connect your mobile phones to your audio devices whether it is in your car or at the comforts of your home, just crank up the music as loud as you possibly can handle in order to enjoy all of SoundCloud’s offerings.

I don’t know about you but discovering new music truly excites me! So what are you waiting for, go check out SoundCloud now you never know if one of the artists you’re following will be the next big musician or it might even be you!

Buying new headphones: A few things to consider

Headphones Guy expand
Jan 28
Headphones Guy

Hello again. I’ve been doing some research lately on around-the-ear headphones because I’ve been looking for a replacement for my old ones. I am not an expert on headphones nor do I claim to know them inside-out, but I will let you know some of what goes through my mind when I am in the market for new ones.

First off, you need to remind yourself of what you will be using your new headphones for. Top-of-the line music headphones may not perform as expected with games or blu-ray movies and vice-versa. If you’re planning on wearing your new headphones for hours and hours, then you better consider comfort to be a top priority since no one wants to buy an arch that produces both sound and excruciating pain at the same time (think “torture” on this one). So, look for headphones with soft ear cups and comfortable/adjustable headbands, but make sure they’re not going to snap off or anything – because build quality should not be sacrificed. Comfort is a definitive attribute for all headphones, so I suggest you invest in it. One more thing; high-end headphones usually have either straight cables or coiled cables in different lengths, therefore, have a look at which type of cable suits you best.

Moving on, when considering sound-quality, some fancy wording comes into play that is key to identifying your new favorite pair of around-the-ear headphones. Yep, what you are about to read is the same fancy wording on the back of almost every single headphones box. Don’t be afraid, it’s not too technical, just give me a chance. I’ll try to simplify things based on what I’ve understood from the research I did. Again, I’m not an expert. Here it is:

Frequency Response – What sound frequencies the headphones are capable of, from low bassy ones in the Hertz range to the highs in the KiloHertz range. (The more coverage of Lows-Mids-Highs the better)

Impedance – This is measured in Ohms (Ω) and it basically means how much resistance the headphones have in relation to an electrical current. Unless you are using a studio amplifier, then you are better off with low impedance headphones. High resistance prevents studio amplifiers from “blowing up” due to all the electrical current.

Sensitivity – Measured in Decibels (dB), this refers to how loud the headphones can get with the electrical current it is supplied with. (Loudness can be harmful, so choose wisely and be careful)

Soundstage – This is not an actual attribute for headphones that is measured on the box, but definitely something that people should take into account. Headphones with high soundstage give you a sense of depth to what you are listening to, and this is great for movies and games for a better surround-sound feeling. As for music, it isn’t necessary and it will sound fine in low soundstage headphones. (Soundstage is one of my personal preferences since I watch a lot of movies.)

So there you have it. Headphones have a lot more to them than just looks, brands or fancy wording and I hope that I was able to give you a good idea of just a FEW things to consider if you are in the market for new ones. This blog post is merely there to get you started into the world of headphones so please use it as an excuse to do some further research online and discover the rest of the “things” that I haven’t mentioned. Check out our collection of headphones on xcite.com to get some ideas.

A Glimpse of the Digital Music Era

Music now and then expand
Jan 27
Music now and then

Growing up I would always see my dad bust out his cassette tapes and play them around the house which mainly centered around one musical genre, “80’s Disco Music”, your Diana Ross’s, Bonnie M’s and Bee Gee’s of this world. Which to me projected a very parochial view on the musical scene. Unlike, my generation, which was exposed to a great deal of musical change and technological advances at the same time, and it is this drastic change that boggles my mind.

Cassette tapes played a major role in my early childhood for they represented the first musical asset I had possessed, but to me they always seemed unpractical with having to forward and rewind every minute or so having to search for the song you want or whether having them ruined due to rewinding the same song way too many times. I guess with all that in mind the digital music concept has made its way onto the technological scene, out from the great minds that forged it and into our houses and living rooms through various audio devices. This is considered to be a blessing in disguise, because music affects our every day lives in so many ways and because technology played such a vital role in revitalizing its resurgence this has allowed peoples musical ears to be more accepting and tolerant.

For you see, technology has changed and evolved our musical tastes quite a bit, because back in the 90’s when I heard a song on the radio that I liked it was considered to be a great hassle having to find out who the artist is or what the name of the song was. But this all changed dramatically. Nowadays, our attachment to our smart phones, iPod’s and laptops make finding music and downloading it ten times easier than it was a few years back!  Which in return tracks back to the great number of genres we are exposed to everyday and the fact that peoples curiosity always seem to get in the way has made them more susceptible to taking in different ideas of what kind of music they should like or dislike.

Looking back on how my dad used to jam to his music and how I easily download my music and carry it around with me on my iPod simply blows my mind on how far we have become technologically and raises one simple question … what is the next big thing in the digital music era?
